Many people have shared with us the story of their journey to peace or how Fr. John’s journey has inspired them along the way. If you would like to share with us your journey to peace, we would love to hear from you.
I have read John Dear's writings in the National Catholic Reporter.
Recently, I struggled with a return to my faith after my years of
sitting on the fence. In doing so, I was called to go out and to put into practice my affirmation: through an immersion in reading,
in prayer, in pilgrimage, in practicing faith through good works.
Before I left to travel abroad, I ventured to write to John Dear,
and he wrote me back, and that simple gesture, that of accessibility,
drove home to me, by example, the strength of his words. He spirited
me on to Syria, to Jerusalem, and to the war torn regions of the
Democratic Republic of Congo, where I was invited to teach film,
photography, pod-casting, and reportage, to young people, to empower
them to tell their stories.
That his words still streamed to me, even far afield, behind rebel
lines, was a wonderful solace and support.
Sincerely,
Carlton C.
